About Mitch…
I am a citizen of the southern Indiana ecosystem, living and riding my recumbent bike in the uplands that feed the White Rivers. I play and sing tunes recovered from old 78’s, and will come to your house to sing them!
During the day, I work for the Office of Creative Services, supporting both people and computers in creating print and web publications about Indiana University.
I love to ride my recumbent (96 Rans Tailwind) through the hills and hollows of southern Indiana, waiting for the rare moments: the cranes gobbling overhead, the turkeys running along the road, or the red-tailed hawk swooping in front our path. Often accompanied by my longtime pal Jojo, we are not afraid to stop and take in beauty of a ridge top view.
Music has always been part of my life, and I still like to play at least once per week, just to get the yahs out! For the past 28 years, Eileen and I have played at the Bloomington Farmers’ Market, playing roots music with a farm/food theme. Our album “Fresh from the Market” is available from us or on CD Baby.
I serve as chairman of the Bloomington Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Commission, and just completed 8 years on the board of Bloomingfoods, our local food co-op. I am beginning a term on the board of Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard, and serve as webmaster for COPA, which monitors the local Superfund PCB cleanup. I also work as webmaster for Jazzfrombloomington.org, Bloomington Bagel Company, and my union at IU, CWA Local 4730. My favorite event, outside of the Market, is the Lotus World Music Festival, where I have volunteered as stage manager and sometime MC the at the Bus-Chum and Waldron (back in the day!) I think global, but work to find local solutions. What more can I say?
